Buying Guide: GTA Online, EA Sports FC & Roblox

These are the biggest mainstream titles in our directory — and they run on noticeably different economics than a typical MMORPG. Here's what's actually different.

A Different Audience, A Different Economy

Most of our directory covers traditional MMORPGs with a dedicated, often older player base. GTA Online, EA Sports FC and Roblox reach a much broader — and often younger — mainstream audience, and their in-game economies reflect that: officially-sold currency cards, loot-box-style packs, and platform-specific virtual currency rather than a classic player-traded gold system.

GTA Online: GTA$ and Business Economy

GTA Online's economy centers on GTA$, officially sold in bundles called Shark Cards, spent on properties, vehicles and businesses that generate further in-game income. Third-party sellers offer GTA$ below official Shark Card pricing, similar in structure to how gold sellers undercut official currency stores in other genres.

EA Sports FC: Ultimate Team Packs

EA Sports FC's coins are spent almost entirely within Ultimate Team, opening packs for randomized player cards — functionally closer to a gacha pull system than a traditional MMO gold economy, despite being a sports title. This makes FC coin sellers closer in spirit to gacha top-up sellers than to a classic gold marketplace.

Roblox: Robux and Limited Items

Roblox runs on Robux, its own platform-wide currency, alongside a secondary market for "Limited" collectible items whose value is driven by scarcity and player demand — closer to the player-driven pricing seen in sandbox MMOs than to fixed-rate MMORPG currency. Roblox's player base also skews notably younger than most of the games in our directory, worth keeping in mind for any real-money purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is buying GTA$ the same as buying WoW gold?

The mechanism is similar — third-party sellers provide in-game currency below the price of the publisher's official currency cards — but detection and enforcement approaches differ by publisher, so treat it as its own risk category rather than assuming identical rules apply.

What are EA Sports FC coins used for?

FC coins are spent primarily in Ultimate Team packs to acquire player cards, functioning similarly to a gacha pull system layered on top of a traditional sports game.

Is Roblox different because of its younger player base?

Roblox does skew younger than most titles on our site, which is worth keeping in mind — parental awareness of any real-money purchase is a reasonable precaution regardless of the specific vendor used.
